Cuan an Chláir is a purpose-built campus in Ennis, Co. Clare, offering secure, comfortable, and uplifting homes for older people. The development includes 27 houses, a vibrant Day Care Facility operated by Clarecare, and a dedicated Alzheimer’s Unit provided by the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

Our story began in 2006 with a simple yet ambitious vision: to create a place where older people could live independently within a supportive community. With the generous gift of land from the Diocese of Killaloe, that vision has become a thriving reality. Today, Cuan an Chláir stands as a testament to partnership, compassion, and the belief that age is an asset.

Apply for Housing

Applications for accommodation at Cuan an Chláir are managed through Clare County Council Housing Directorate. Residents are selected according to the Council’s eligibility criteria and assessment process.

If a person wishes to be considered for housing provided by Cuan an Chlair they must be on the Clare County Council Record of Qualified Households (Social Housing list) . To apply for social housing a person must complete and submit an application form to Clare County Council. The application form can be obtained from Clare County Council or downloaded from their website. A person is considered eligible for social housing support when they satisfy the income criteria, and the person does not have suitable alternative accommodation that they could live in or sell to provide other housing for themselves. In addition, a person must not have been in arrears in another local authority property and must have the right to reside in the State, if from another country.
